The Sakonnet Preservation Association (SPA)
SPA sponsors public education events bringing experts in the conservation field to speak on such topics as: grass-nesting bird stewardship; basics of conservation easements; local impacts of winter moth infestation. To check the schedule of upcoming programs, click on Educational Programs.

The Garden Conservancy
The mission of the Garden Conservancy is to preserve, share, and celebrate America’s gardens and diverse gardening traditions for the education and inspiration of the public. Will be presenting “Challenges of Urban Gardens in Historic Settings” on June 13 and “Arts & Crafts Ideals in the 21st Century” on June 19. Rhode Island Wild Plant Society
a nonprofit conservation organization, dedicated to the preservation and protection of Rhode Island’s native plants and their habitats. URI Master Gardener Program educates citizens in environmentally-sound gardening practices through the dissemination of factual, research-based information. Through the train-the-trainer approach, over 700 volunteers serve as URI Extension Master Gardener educators, amplifying the impact of Cooperative Extension to improve environmental quality and build healthy communities. Native Plant Trust, formerly Garden in the Woods, has a native plant finder, offers on line and in person classes, and grows native plants from seed for sale beginning in April.
Grow Native Massachusetts promotes native plants through workshops, programs and native plant sales. They offer a free lecture series, “Evenings with Experts” every spring at the public library in Cambridge, MA. You can access previous recordings here.
Dan Jaffe’s useful plants lists is a great source for planning a native garden.
Margaret Roach’s, author of “A Way To Garden”, website is full of useful “how to” information, plant lists, book lists, etc. and a link to her podcast.
The Connecticut Master Gardener Association’s
annual garden symposium will take place virtually on Saturday, March 20th starting at 9:00 am. Connecticut Master Gardeners, guests and the public will have the opportunity to hear national and regional experts talk about “Gardening Any Time, Any Place”. North Creek Nurseries offers a wealth of information about native plants and excellent planting guides. It offers detailed descriptions and pictures of native plants as well as resources that focus on ecology and horticulture.
Wild Seed Project. The goal of the Wild Seed Project is to raise awareness about the vital importance of native plants in our landscapes. They provide communities, municipalities, individuals and organizations with skills and knowledge to repopulate our landscapes with native plants that expand wildlife habitat, support biodiversity and build climate resilience.
